Off-grid survival habitat interior

A home that does not need the world above it.

A Bobbuyshouses survival habitat is conceived as a finished subterranean residence with bedrooms, kitchen, sanitation, and living space. Utility independence can be configured according to the intended occupancy, site, and project requirements.

Each habitat is developed around an intended occupancy profile and selected utility configuration. Options can include backup generators, battery storage, dedicated water supply or storage, and water-management systems.

Selected configurations can incorporate multi-stage air filtration, pressure-control options, and specialist protection for critical electrical and communication systems.

Autonomy targets

Extended-occupancy configurations can be developed according to occupant count, site conditions, provisioning, and utility requirements.

Typical timeline

20 to 36 weeks from signed agreement to commissioning, depending on size and finish level.

Finish level

Full residential finish — hardwood, stone, custom cabinetry — or utilitarian, to client preference.

A complete, independent habitat system.

Each survival-habitat project can integrate power, water, air, sanitation, and residential features according to the agreed design and project scope.

Independent power

Backup-power configurations can include fuel storage, generators, and battery banks, with specialist electrical-protection options available for critical systems.

Multi-stage air filtration

Air-system options can include HEPA and activated-carbon filtration stages, pressure-control features, and manually operable backup ventilation.

Water & reclamation

Dedicated well or cistern options can be combined with grey-water management and wastewater-treatment systems according to site conditions and the selected project configuration.

Food storage & production

Climate-controlled dry stores, freeze-dried reserves, and optional hydroponic bays for fresh production during extended occupation.

Communications

Communication options can include radio, satellite connectivity, network equipment, and integration with external monitoring services according to project requirements.

Residential finish

Full residential interior finish to client specification — hardwood, stone, custom cabinetry, lighting design. A home, not a hole.

From autonomy target to turnkey habitat.

01

Threat profile & autonomy target

We begin by defining the intended use, occupancy requirements, and target duration of independent operation. These factors guide the subsequent project design and system selection.

02

Geotechnical & architectural design

Site investigation, soil analysis, and full architectural design including residential layout, MEP systems, and entry configuration.

03

Systems integration

Power, water, air, sanitation, communications, and security options can be coordinated as an integrated system, with redundancy specified where appropriate.

04

Construction & commissioning

Construction, residential fit-out, system checks, and commissioning activities are completed according to the final project scope and selected equipment.

Questions we are asked most often.

Habitability, provisioning, water, power, ventilation, and storage requirements are developed around the intended occupancy profile. The practical duration of independent use depends on the final project configuration and available supplies.

Backup-power configurations can be developed with multiple power sources and battery storage according to the resilience objectives and operating requirements of the individual project.

Specialist electrical-protection measures can be incorporated for critical systems. The exact approach, components, and performance requirements are determined by the selected project specification.

Many clients design for future expansion from the outset, with stub tunnels or预留 foundation capacity. Expanding an existing shell is possible but significantly more expensive than planning for it initially.

Projects can incorporate adjustable lighting, air-quality features, acoustic treatments, and residential-grade finishes to create a more comfortable interior environment.
